“Your people rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.” Isaiah 58:12

Villages of Hope Africa, a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization, was formed in 2007 by David and Dana Mann as a result of their first exploratory trip to Gulu in the spring of 2005. After 10 years of ministry in the South they felt a strong calling from God to move their efforts from where many organizations were established, to the northern region of Uganda. At that time Gulu was a war-torn, confused, harsh area in which two decades of Joseph Kony’s rebel activity had destroyed the people, their land, and their spirits. Many non-governmental organizations (NGOs) were doing work, but the people still remained enslaved in the IDP (Internally Displaced Peoples) camps with no hope of returning to the heritage and customs of their home villages. Everywhere they looked you could see the result of the total breakdown of their clan social structure. Thousands upon thousands were simply “existing” in the forgotten world of the IDP camps where competition for survival had overcome the history of family. After spending time in the camps interviewing families and local officials they came to realize that the Acholi people didn’t have a chance to live “normal” lives without first moving out of the IDP camps. The hope for restoration depended upon re-settlement back into the village.

After this exploratory trip, the Mann’s were given the vision of Return, Rebuild, Restore from the scripture verses Isaiah 58:6-12. The mission of VOHA became to partner with people and communities in hopes to allow them to become self-sufficient. As this vision was coming to fruition, Tony Onono came along side the Mann’s to be the hands and feet of the ministry on the ground in Uganda.

  • RETURN home to their ancestoral village land
  • REBUILD village communities by partnering with them to drill a deep water well, provide tools and seeds for farming, help promote leadership and social structure in communities, provide sanitation training
  • RESTORE spiritual lives by establishing Pastor leadership and training, building churches, and providing Bible study resources

Villages of Hope Africa exists to honor God by demonstrating his love in a holistic manner to the most vulnerable people of Northern Uganda. We seek to network with others by providing basic elements to establish sustainable villages that will reflect a new hope for the future.

The foundation of VOHA is building authentic relationships with the Acholi people, in hopes to build a strong partnership and love on them as Christ loves us. We partner along side local village communities in three core objectives of Water, Education, and Pastor’s Trainings.

It is our prayer that through these relationships the light and love of Christ shines through us, the Truth will be spoken, and communities will be transformed with the Living Water of Christ.
