GO TO GULU
Pack your bags. Grab your passport. Step outside your comfort zone. Experience Acholi culture. Share Jesus love. Meet new friends. Grow in Christ. Are you ready?
You can join a team individually or your entire group can book a trip! It is easy. Our International team leader will prepare and train you for your trip in the United States; as she walks you through every part of the experience. Training will include everything from how to raise trip funds and what to pack, to teaching you about the culture and what to expect when in Africa. We will travel to Uganda and join our Acholi team as we serve God and the Acholi people together in Gulu town and throughout the villages. Our leadership team is experienced and ready to guide you through this life changing journey as we love on the Acholi people.
Some are called to send, others are called to go. Together we can bring the love, hope, and the message of Christ.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
WHY SHOULD I GO TO UGANDA, AFRICA?
God has called us to make disciples of all nations, to love people as He loves us, and to be bold, strong, and courageous as we live our lives for Him. This is a life changing experience that will deepen your relationship with God as you love on and serve the Acholi people. Pray about how and where God is calling you to serve. If you are called to serve in Africa, we are so excited to welcome you to our Villages of Hope Africa team, and look forward to serving with you.

HOW LONG IS A TYPICAL TRIP?
12-14 days

WHERE WILL WE BE WORKING?
Gulu, located in the Northern Uganda.

WHO WILL WE BE REACHING?
We partner with men, women, and children in village communities of Northern Uganda. They are a people group, named the Acholi people who have lived through the unimaginable due to a 20-year war that led to devastation and destruction.

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?
Just as every team is different, no two trips are the same. We have seen God use, work in, and speak to people so differently in Uganda. If God is calling you, I guarantee that he will use, teach, and change you incredible ways as you serve the Acholi people. The simplest way to say it, and most certain thing that we will be doing is loving on men, women, and children. We will walk and act in love because that is the example that Christ has set for us. We will be directly in the villages of Gulu, Uganda truly stepping into and experiencing the Acholi culture. We will play with children, visit villages that don't have a water well yet, visit villages that have had their water well for a few years, hospital ministry, camp in a village, visit the village we are currently drilling in, open a new well with a community, help build, garden, cook, build relationships, worship, and follow where God is calling us.

WHERE ARE WE STAYING AND WHAT WILL IT BE LIKE?
We will sleep in Gulu town at a Hotel or Guest House. You will have access to a shower, American toilet, a bed with mosquito net covering, and occasional wifi. We will also camp one night in the village in tents.

HOW WILL WE GET THERE?
You must prepare yourself for the travel, but we know that upon arriving in the village, you will feel confident that every minute was worth it. We will have one in country flight (approx. 2 hours) and then two international flights (8-9 hours each). When we arrive in Uganda we will sleep at a hotel near the airport, then wake up the next morning for a 7-hour drive through the Ugandan cities and countryside and over the Nile River, in order to arrive in Gulu.

DO I NEED A PASSPORT TO GO?
Yes! You should begin the process of getting your passport now.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OUT OF ME AS A TEAM MEMBER?
A willing and teachable spirit, flexibility, transparency, and excitement. This may take you out of your comfort zone and grow you, but it is also going to be fun! You will also be expected to attend ALL meetings prior to our trip, these help to get you prepared as possible and also allows us to foster unity as a team before we head out.

WILL I BE TRAINED?
Yes, in our team meetings we will train and prepare you with the needed information, before traveling to Uganda. You will also go through a briefing in Uganda, from our Uganda team. God has written your story, equipped you, and called you just as you are. No time is better than now. While in Uganda our experienced VOHA team will be with you to guide and support you along this life-changing journey.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
The trip cost is usually between $3,700-$4,000, dependent on the cost of the flight. This price will include airline ticket and all other expenses when on the ground throughout the trip. This does NOT include passport, immunizations, personal trip supplies, souvenirs, and food in airports (you will be fed on plane).

Please do not let this be a deterrent...We serve a Big, Big God. If he is calling you here, we are confident that He will provide the way. He is able...each team member sends out support letters for financial and prayer support. With faith, you like all others that have gone will be amazed how your support is covered by friends, family and co-workers. Have Faith!

IS IT SAFE?
The safety of our team members is of upmost importance. If we are even slightly concerned with the possible safety of our team members, we will not take a team. Villages of Hope Africa has developed a strong and trusted relationship with the Gulu government, businesses in Gulu town, and throughout the villages. Please ask us if you have specific questions or concerns with traveling to Uganda.
